“…she hath wrought a good work on me. Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.” Mark 14:6b, 9
This unnamed woman loved Jesus and anointed his head with a very expensive spikenard ointment. The disciples ridiculed her for “pouring away” this large amount of money, for the ointment could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus rebuked their attitude by saying, “she has done a good work on me. The poor will always be among you, but I will not. Because of her love, she will be remembered throughout the whole world.”
How deep is your love for Jesus? Are you willing to sacrifice yourself? The woman came and anointed Jesus, she didn’t send someone else. Are you frugal or lavish? She gave Jesus nearly a year’s wages. Will your love for Christ remain strong in the face of opposition? She didn’t run from the disciples’ condemnation.
Search your heart, evaluate your commitment, and measure your love for Christ. Jesus left us with this commendation, “in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, ye have done it unto me.”
Break the box and lavishly pour out the Love Ointment on Jesus today.
