Jesus Loves Me

And we have known and believed the
love that God hath to us. God is love.
1 John 4:16

It was nearing Christmas time. Two-year-old Alyssa stood by the nativity scene. Carefully she arranged and rearranged Mary and Joseph. She gently cradled the baby Jesus. She cautiously stood the camel in one spot, the sheep in another and the wise men in this position and that one. Suddenly, Alyssa burst forth in song:

Jesus loves me, this I know;
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong; they are weak,
But He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me;
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me;
The Bible tells me so.

Then, she again, regrouped the ceramic figurines. It’s always been tradition at our house to allow the children access to the nativity scene. I get the setout early, often in November. As we set it up each year in the same brown stable, on the same little table, at the same spot in the living room, I tell the age-old story. After that, the children can freely enjoy it. As I silently sat by this year, watching Alyssa and then hearing her enter into that blessed hymn, I knew again that I’ll never regret having numerous times glued together many of the ceramic figurines. Many little hands, hearts and minds have been touched by the Father during their play as Alyssa’s were this year.

Prayer: Father, may each of our children and grandchildren forever delight in a personal walk with You, Jesus and Savior. Amen.

Ponder: Make the nativity scene your most important Christmas decoration. Allow the children to ponder and study the message in it as they arrange and rearrange the figurines.
