The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When Kyle, was a year old, he loved to see Grandpa up front on a Sunday morning, preaching the Word. He’d do his usual—arm straight out, first finger point—right towards grandpa and holler out his endearing name for him, “Daaaaa.” Then, Kyle’s face would break out into the biggest and brightest smile.
After several moments of this, Pastor Grandpa found it difficult to keep his poised manner, and at last responded back with a delightful beaming smile that connected with his grandson. Encouraged by the admiration of this little man, with new fervor Pastor Grandpa continued the message the Lord had given him to share.
As I observed this exchange between grandson and grandfather, my mind went back to several times when the Lord focused directly upon me. He
enthusiastically ministered encouragement to my heart exactly when I needed it. During a social gathering, I sensed tension. I wanted to retreat and quietly move to the background. At that moment, it seemed the Lord touched my shoulder and called my name, “Donna.”
He released from me the bondage of fear by His very presence and acceptance. His enjoyment and everabidinglove for me is even deeper than that of Kyle’s delight in his grandpa.
Then there are the times when I’ve been the one to call out to my Father (Daaaa), and feel Him respond in a beam of warmth, love and empowerment for my immediate situation. No matter what my lot, at any given moment, the enjoyment of my Lord and His Presence with me gives encouragement ike nothing else.
Prayer: My Father God, You are the light of my life. You empower me with strength when I feel fear. I bless You for Your very presence in my life. Amen.
Ponder: When you’re tempted to fear, envision the Father laying His hand on you. Allow Him to quiet your temptation.
